Mother Nature's Warning Note

Mother Nature’s Warning Note

Man for eons had tried and still till today is trying his level best again to play God in many ways, thinking that he could outsmart ``Mother Nature’’, in every possible way as much he could get his hands on her. He never realizes that this ever giving ``mother’’ too could snatch back if man intrudes further deep down on her that causes destabilization her state of natural equilibrium.

She has got nothing to loose, as her condition are being ``raped’’ further, till a state she could not bear for to long, she just may unleash her raging fury that no human could stop her. She had given man everything she has but this has got man over his head, becoming unappreciative and ingratitude to her selfless providing nature. She still could bear all this mess created by humans but lately she has been issuing many `warning notes’’ as a reminder.

Now, man cries for help. She has really had shown the other side of her pleasant nature in reciprocal to man’s mistreatment meted on her. Man decides to take a different approach to handle her. They had not understood her requirement well. The intellectual man thought by merely coming up with rhetoric and half past control actions, that the earth could be saved enough.

She just sits and looked down on human who in a helter-skelter condition, trying very hard to save `Earth’ via slogans and frantic activities of controlling man-made decay as opposed to natural evolution of her life-cycle. She merely scoffs off the Green Global Forum held recently by earthly leaders as a mere momentary heat that soon to cool-off without any real effective big change in a short time.

She sees how the earthlings continues to `unashamedly’’ robbing everything she holds in her possession. How this idiotic man comes out with brilliant ideas of saving the earth when he himself began the act of destroying her in the first place. She chuckles knowing how human’s intellect is as limited as that of a microbe in understanding the basics of natural evolution.

The ever smart foolish earthlings continues to think that they can control ``mother earth’’ and will ever do so in spite of receiving many ``severe warnings’’. She flashes stark horrifying graphic visual impact signposts everywhere around the globe in recent years. Yet mortals don’t seem to heed her warnings. She now came up another noble idea of posting into Internets to warn her ``temporary tenants’’ to stop meddling in her affairs or otherwise face with dire adverse effects and consequences of her retaliations in many forms.

Knowing as a mother, she too has that weakness in not wanting to see her children perish with her, sooner or later. She willingly lets herself to be in their mercy as she realizes the proverb in reverse notion saying, `` God proposes but Man disposes’’, even faster than God, the ``Designer’’ has his time plan differently for earthlings to life through. Well, what’s the heck, man is known to screw-up things all the time. We just might as well have done it again this time! At a far corner of the globe, Mother Earth just sits in a rocking chair, watching us cracking everywhere and smiles in a cynical way. She says, ``Son, this is your own doing. So, you yourself clean this mess’’

The Art Of Being Consistent

Practice Pick a meeting, a phone call, a day, and put one or two - or all three - of plans/ suggestions to work for you. Write the headlines on a PostIt note and stick it to your desk. Put a reminder in your calendar. You never know what might happen!

Father's Day

Father’s Day: Remembering My Father - Krishnan Peter Pereira
Just barely after Mother’s day event, Father’s Day celebration too followed suit. What an amazing world of `theme branding’ as part of the grander commercialization scheme of strategy to pull wool out from public’s eyes to depart all their hard earned savings and getting them indulge in celebrating yet another `cool’, emotion stirring economic activity whilst entertaining conveniently, scheming or nicely naming it - ``Happy Father’s Day'', undoubtedly appreciating all the fathers around the world in a polite way.
================================================================
My father was born in Mersing, Johor, a fisherman village, town, and east of Johor. It was a coastal town on South China Sea. He was sort of reserved man. I don’t have much information about his childhood days, nevertheless. I knew that he was a Eurasian - blend of few sub-ethnic Indian and Portuguese blood. His father’s ancestors are mainly sailors from Portugal, who are famous for their seafaring adventures to Far East lands. His father’s roots could be traced to Malacca’s Portuguese settlements, Madras, Pondicherry, and Kerala and back to Portugal.

His father’s name is Peter Pereira, a Eurasian Roman Catholic - mix parentage - Portugese,Tamil and Malayalam. I was told that my grandfather had died when he was just barely 7 years old. His late father married to my grandma, a Tamilian / Indian ethnic and they had 5 children. He was so attached to his hometown that my father used to travel often back to Mersing, even though he lived in Segamat almost all his entire life. He is basically a man of no words when he is in his `equilibrium state’’.

He has the ability to speak in many Chinese dialects as a result from working at a very young age in a motor vehicle workshop. Disinterested in studies, he joined as a car mechanic apprentice at a Chinese owned garage at the age of 6 and subsequently picked up the ability to converse in many Chinese dialects such as Hokkien, Cantonese, Mandarin as well as Indian ethnic dialects, namely Malayalam, Tamil, and Telegu.

He joined PWD (Public Works Department), JKR, a ``fitter mechanic’’ and remained as a JKR’s workshop foreman till his retirement. His early work postings were in Johor Bahru, Mersing’s Tanjung Gemuk, Chaah, Kuantan and finally settled in Segamat.

A highly skilled worker, he gets many work assignments, as far as from Singapore and Penang. Sadly, he never had the chance to see his life through without seeing his grandchildren. He passed away just after his first year of work retirement before reaching age of 57. I was working in Singapore when he had his last breath at Sultanah Aminah’s Hospital, Johor Bharu.

My rapport with my father was a little subdued and hardly a warm one! Somewhat I always felt I was not in tune’ with his characters and in that it makes us not close at most of the times. Rarely spoke to him, except when there are subject matters needed to be discussed. The conversation would not last more than a few minutes long. My admiration about him confined within the frame of his work skills and multilingual spoken language ability.

To some extent, I learned many lessons from him from a different perspective. Why things are meant to be in that way? Could things be different from how I envisaged it to be then, especially in a father and son relationship? I may never have the chance to understand him and he too may never know how I expected him to be different and how things would have been good if he had that extra ability to push us up in the ladder of life.

Unlike as compared to a special kind of inner bond created between a mother and son in most relationships, father and son bonds are somewhat difficult to be explained. It is not just mere feeling sentiments, but a glutinously telepathic inner force bond that acted in a certain manner that actually binds. Let’s that remain, as it was then and now. I hold my palm together, tight and offer my silent prayers. May his soul rest in peace.....and whisper slowly - ` Happy Father's Day'.

Dasavatharam / Perling Mall Mini Shopping

Not quite busy after having done home chores, after getting everything in order in the home; cleaning, arranging, disposing, mopping and mini gardening, I decided to let loose myself and take a joy ride to Perling Mall, in Taman Perling, Johor Bahru for a `mini shopping', calculating strictly to conform to revised ``fuel inflated budget' . The journey from Kulai itself was measured by the manner I press on the car's accelerator paddle as a mean not to burn the extra fuel consumption for nothing. 90 km/hr drive would be sufficient, which I exactly did and yes, could see the difference on the per km drive fuel consumption saving rate!

As soon I arrived at Perling Mall, I noticed that a special children coloring cum talent contest is being organised in the center of mall's show staging area. I walked upstairs to get myself a vegetarian `hor fun mee' at ``Sedap Corner'. Mind me, its just to fill up an empty stomach! A slight detour after ``mini shopping at the ``Giant' hypermarket', a stream of movie goers have stretched a bee-line at the `Iswara Perling Mall'' theatre's ticket counters. I just dropped by to see why such a long queue there and realised that `Dasavatharam' movie, acted by Kamal Hassan is on show today! No wonderlah..Hey! why not just jump in the queue and be one of those filling numbers who had chanced to view an outstanding Tamil movie touted to be one of the best revolutionized Tamil / Indian silver screen movie that frog leaped it's current Kollyhood/Bollyhood standard, employing highly modern and sophisticated cinematography wizardry gadgets & superior film making technologies.

Purchased the 3.00pm movie ticket. The crowd was `standard' - appx. 300 people. The rushed start of the movie was quite unusual, as no thriller or trailer for the next change. The screen blast its sound system as soon we could even find our sitting seats. The beginning introduction lines were just glanced before I could settle down to rest. The pace of the movie was quite Ok and sequence that follows were quite `western' in a way. I thought I was watching a scientific thriller of a kind, the Indian/Tamil version. This film makers, no doubt had set a very high standard, especially for a Tamil film movie making technology. It's way beyond reach for other Indian film to match ``Dasavatharam''. I'm sure it will be a while for any other Indian movie makers to be able to come close to this movie's high tech sophistication usage as far as technology is concerned!

The car, helicopter, falling from buildings, tsunami effects were too good. Kamal Hassan's roles as Telugu CID, Malayale man , staunch Vaishanava man , an old lady, ex-CIA terrorist, Bush look alike style mannerism and Punjabi man were superb!

The high tech gears, used to shot were also superbly done. Kamal shows his star fantastic acting quality in 10 different roles with ease. Some of the make ups are quite looked artificial in a way, but hey, not bad in that changing every other roles! He ables extraordinarily in carrying those demanding roles so easily and convincingly. Yea! this has leveled him on par with the great Tamil actor Sivaji Ganesan but somewhat, I reserve that right, however still unmatched as far as comparing to our old silver screen hero, the late multi talented actor Sivaji Ganesan's acting prowess.

The movie is very heavily western in its standard that many Indian movie goers in India may not fully able to appreciate, matter of fact. But, then at least many would be proud that he had indeed set a very high bar for any other Indian movie makers / actors to follow suit and shine in the international arena. Yes! this is an international standard movie, for sure!

Aunt's 1st Anniversary Prayers

I went back to work happily today after 2 days of absence! My body immune level inevitably plunged lower. This leads to contracting common flu and congested nose condition on Wednesday. I scrambled to a nearby clinic. Doctor prescribed a week pack of antibiotics dosage and inflammatory nasal spry, gave a day off (Medical Cert), and a RM$45 bill to settle (grin). Paid and went for a light breakfast -`A plate of `Mee Hoon goreng' and ginger `O' , enough all right. I gulped down the first few pills/tablets with couple of herbal tablets and multivitamin.

So, the rest of the day I was in a total `relax' mode, kept myself low at home, reading the NST , STAR and had a quick short naps in between. Now and then calls rang from work place. My subordinates called to ask for direction and advice on issues they find in a `fix'. Later in the evening, after shower, practiced veena for couple of hours. My sister- in- law and cousin called and reminded of my auntie's(mum's older sister) special 1st anniversary prayer's on Thursday - 12/06/08 at Taman University in the morning. I have almost forgotten about it. Realising of that date, I had to quickly call GM and informed him of my `urgent leave' application for a day, to which he did acknowledged understandingly.

Auntie's 1st ``Atma Shanti'' - Soul's peaceful journey prayer offerings into the ``beyonds'' by families, relatives and friend. Little I did wonder how time has been so ``kind'' reminding us that life is long but time is short. I could track my vision back to younger days, roaming around and being taken care by her during almost all school holidays in government's Telecoms quarters at Larkin, Johor Bahru. She is mum's elder sister. She is naturally a strong willed person and live a life of giving and being a kind ``umbrella mother'' to most of us and her relatives. Kind hearted person when comes to charity and offers her helping hand to persons in need even she doesn't have much to herself at times.

Rasamah Athimulam, a befitting name for her. She has that `charismatic' capability to be a central focal person in our family circle of women stewardship. Auntie declined to be a teacher and married early in life and blessed with 6 children. She is a product of 1940's hardship era.(Japanese war period). She took good care of us till her last. I could only recall all of her help and support when we were at her home, helping her running home chores. She would bring us to theatre in Johor Bahru town's, Rex and, Broadway or Capitol. She loves screen theatre movies.

A giver than a receiver, all her living life has been dedicated to provide ample precious security to her children and close family relatives like myself, brothers and her brothers and sisters. We got more than what we wanted when we're with her than from our own parents. I used to take 4 to 5 hours long train trip from Segamat to Johor Bahru on most of my long school holidays and be with her and cousins. Almost a second home to us as my father and uncle are brothers and mum and auntie are sisters. Rightly, we looked upon her on a more higher standing order than our own mother.

`A fighter till to her last'', she has that grit and determination in getting things right and as she wanted them to be. In her own way, she did very well in all her plans, albeit many shortcomings conditions she has to encounter and those sacrifices she had made helping raising her own children, coupled with those of her sisters, in particular ,us, her younger sister's kids. It would be not right and ``adharmic'' if did not mention that we owed to her generosity, caring and loving nature ensuring our living life are not wasted as well a meaningful one. She is definitely enshrined forever in my memory and indebted so much for her sacrifices towards all of us. May she be rested peacefully in the ``abode of heavens'' and ``transmigrate'' to a better present living life of her ``karmic choice''.

Blazing Fuel Tank!

Blazing Fuel Tank!

At last, the dreaded announcement on gas price hike by Prime Minister had been made. Petrol price have increased eventually to RM$2.70/litre (41% increase) after 12.00midnight, beginning on 5th June 2008. It didn’t struck my mind at all when I saw hundreds of car’s and motorbikes queued in long stretches at every petrol kiosk throughout my journey back home from work yesterday evening that the fuel price is about to increase in couple of hours later. I was just thinking that everyone is ``kiasu’’ to the impending announcement to be made later that day by our Prime Minister, who had earlier said that any changes on the price will only be effected only in August . However, many were caught by surprise of the immediate price hike announcement, hence causing massive jams as consumers scrambled to have their vehicle tanks filled to the fullest.

I’ve never seen such a massive traffic jam condition created due to `petrol crunch’ in my life! I left work ad 6.00pm and reached home at 8.00pm. Suspecting something amiss, I turned the 8.00pm news (TV3) and confirmed my fear. It was correct prediction. Government had increased the oil price indeed, effectively the following day! So, what’s next? I drive to work, covering over 80kms daily. This will cost me RM$100 to fully pump in fuel instead of normal RM$70! No joke, I drive to work from Kulai to Desa Cemerlang, Ulu Tiram industrial estate daily! Now, I have to review all strategies again to minimize impact and rethink long distance journey plans in future carefully.

What are in the pipeline stored for us now? Past experience shows that price of goods and services too will start to increase steadily thence on. Our transport system is not all that efficient to ferry commuters from one location to another. Unlike other countries, say like Singapore, which has a fantastic integrated transportation system for public to conveniently rely upon, our's is in tatters, haphazardly managed and often than not never follow proper schedules on time. We are always so proud to have one of the best road network systems in Asia/world, but in actual fact, we built many of these ways not to maximum convenient or taking account the future conditioning but rather just fulfilling a certain requirement at a point of time.

I was quite amused, just before the election, when the billboards erected across nations at strategic location displays the fuel price differences sold in our neighbouring countries. A clear sign to show how low are our rates as compared to them. However, it does’t mean anything to most of us because we have to see how efficient their systems are in place, especially when benchmarking Singapore. I am sure we wanted to display the best to the world in everything we do but when comes to ``economy management’’, we are definitely have done many wrong doings!

I felt very sad and at times angry or somewhat perplexed how our system had stooped so low till we are struggling with our ``riches’’ as one of fastest developing nation in the world. I am a normal citizen not a politician but clearly understood most of the things not right up there. What is happening? We need an astute finance Minister like the late Tun Tan Siew Sin. Give the job to a person who is well versed in the field of economics not just to certain elected representative who serve political interest and failed the people who have entrusted them.

We spent our money like nobody business, no much savings, buildings houses and roads and all the mega projects but to be abandon later. We try to please political ally system (whatever team out there) but never please the quality of life we are being given or tracked on by the very people we entrusted upon. We should have done away the `subsidy’ system so long ago gradually in all forms and compete to improve our lot with hard, grit and strong determination to succeed. Whatever race, color, religion one can be in this beautiful nation or ours, all must be excelling to their fullest term without deprivation of any sort.

Oops! Where I am? Come to fuel issue. My car tank surely will set ``ablaze’’ and my expenses will need readjustment. This too cause burning of my ``budget pocket’’, so much so that I am thinking to shift nearer to my work place to save transport cost and have to re-budget my expenses. My ``heads spins'' to see many escalating prices of domestic goods and services in such a short time! You could read more comments by public members in http://www.malaysiakini.com/

Kural ( Words of Wisdom by Tiruvalluvar)

As I was reading today's `Master Course Daily Lesson'' via email, ``Tirukural'', it grabbed my attention span & compelled me to post it in today's blog spot. Click Minimela to enjoy further reading on these couplets by Saint Tiruvalluvar written over 2,2000 years ago.
These daily couplets are drawn from Saint Tiruvalluvar's Tirukural, an ethical masterpiece written over 2,200 years ago in South India. This American English translation, known as Weaver's Wisdom, is available at our Minimela online store.
Tirukural.
A daily chapter from South Indian saint Tiruvalluvar's Tirukural, "Holy Couplets."
Kural 91
Pleasant words, full of tenderness and devoid of deceit, fall from the lips of virtuous men.
Kural 92
Better than a gift given with a joyous heart are sweet words spoken with a cheerful smile.
Kural 93
A kindly countenance and sweet words spoken from the heart are virtue's way.
Kural 94
Poverty-provoking sorrow will not pursue those who speak joy-producing words to all they meet.
Kural 95
Humility and pleasant words are the jewels that adorn a man; there are none other.
Kural 96
If a man seeks to do good while speaking sweet words, his virtues will wax and his vices will wane.
Kural 97
Words yield spiritual rewards and moral excellence when they do not wander far from usefulness and agreeableness.
Kural 98
Sweet speech that is a stranger to pettiness imparts pleasure not only in this life, but in the next.
Kural 99
Why would anyone speak cruel words, having observed the happiness that kind words confer?
Kural 100
To utter harsh words when sweet ones would serve is like eating unripe fruits when ripe ones are at hand.

Romancing The Past

Mr Muthu Krishnan, first catalyst in my life. A strict disciplinarian when comes to work but a jovial person at other times. He is a Singaporean but I came to know later that he had migrated to Switzerland. He displays a strong willed character but a softed heart person by nature. I had learned my good management experiences from him. He was responsible in guidig me to be the first Malaysian Manufacturing Supervisor in AT&T Consumer Products Ptd Ltd Singapore.

My good friend, Woon, near chemistry lab. Infamously became our ``teasing target'' when he overheated lab cylinder with crude oil that we were doing distillation process experiment ``exploded'', spewing crude black oil unto all over on those around him. They got their school uniform with `polka dot' design patches/pattern as a result.... (ha! ha!)

In my rented room in Singapore(1990). Living in a rented room in high rise flats in Singapore is like trapped in a pigeon cage. The rental charge was low, S$200/ per room. Back then, it's just work, home, sleep and night classes ...work & work & work(Gained valuable experiences here). I really admire the country's management system - Taught me the meaning of hardwork.. shall yield positive results eventualy!

The year - 1981 , Forth Form(STS). I was the `class monitor' then. Siting beside Mr Woon, our class teacher. We were Science students. Mr Woon is a brilliant `wacko' biology teacher who always says, ``Anda tidak bagus'' whenever the boys behave badly.

The only childhood picture that I have with me. It was my birthday! Guess which one is me? Ha! Ha!Correct! Right in the center infront of my grandma, flanked by elder brother(Mohan-right) and cousin(Maheswaran-left).

Reminiscing old memories - this picture was taken in one of AT&T(Spore) annual dinner & dance nights.(1990) These lasses are my fellow Manufacturing Supervisors and Leaders. Total change from a normal work attire..!!! I couldn't recognize them either....till they came and ask for a photo shot as a group!

Futsal Game In Nutshell

Futsal To Loosen The Stiffened Body Cells
Can I play Futsal? Emm, No! No! I was quite taken aback when reverend Sivaprabhananda Swamiji invited me to play `futsal’ with youngsters in a local indoor court at Larkin Industrial area yesterday. ``Can I play soccer after a lapse of 23 years?’’, I asked myself. ``That’s an awful tough act at this age and again after such a long period!!’’ ``Why not give it a try, after all I have been jumping and doing few basic body exercise at home lately’’ I attended a small meeting with family friends before heading to Kempas ``kuttir'' to fetch up Swamiji. We joined together with few youngsters and Mr Baskaran, middle aged gentleman who was also a former state footballer.
I was quite happy to see an indoor artificial pitch, half a size of a hockey field. I hadn’t stepped onto one for a long time now. The last time I had a good playing game was in Port Klang, playing for Banting Teachers in their local district league. I was actively involved in club level hockey too, ditching out my hockey skills on the `astro-turf ‘’ pitch. We started with ``4 a side’’ in a team. Swamiji proved to be a vintage and showed glimpse of his old skills when he played with Johor state football team. However, we are no match with the boys, Rohit, Suraj, Lingesh, Prem and their friend who have plenty of stamina plus hard running.

I have to take time-off halfway through – lacked stamina but quite OK with my basic skills. No bad Yeah! I could fell entire body cells responding positively to external movement. Burning heat engulfs entire body muscles as I ran and burned off excess body calories/fats. Sweat glands activated and profusely drained out body liquids. My lung expanded and responded correspondingly, with an increase oxygen intake. We all had pretty well an hour long game. Swamiji stayed throughout without any stop time. It was an incredible feat considering for his age (60 years old). Suraj strained his ankle muscle but no hard damage is done. At end of the game I felt freshened up, gained part of my old `sporting’ self and loosened up my stiffed body cells. OK! I will definitely not miss the next futsal game call and I will be right there on the ball!!
