Happy Birthday Ganesha

Tomorrow is Ganesha's Birthday  - Ganesha Chaturthi

Ganesha is considered to the most endearing form of all Hindu Deities. Though His worship forms the most important aspect in one's daily pooja, His birthday, Ganesha Chaturthi is celebrated grandly and with devotion

Significance of His name Ganesha
The term Ganesha stems from the root "Gana" which means the leader (host) of demigods, especially referring to the retinue of Lord Siva and the term "Esha" means "ruler" or "Lord". Hence, the term Ganesha means Ruler or Lord of the Demigods.

Why I am a Vegeterian?

I am quite numb when asked by my friends, peers, relatives and inner circle acquaintances on this subject. However, this was not so a few decades ago. I would be quite flabbergasted when anyone asked this question.

It took me some years before I was able to give an answer to these people to my satisfaction, not theirs and in that process happy to articulate my choice of diet with jolly good sentiment.

I will not tire of giving them answers whenever they asked me,"Why I am a vegetarian?", again and again now!

Sometimes even your "part-time" vegetarian friends may find it difficult to understand your full-time choice to abstain animal, birds, fish  tissues; completely removed from daily diet for lifelong. No regret about that either.

I don't preach to others to be a vegetarian following in my footsteps with an understanding that it is a personal choice, nobody to be forced to be one.

Religious reason or personal choice?

Don't you feel the crave seeing others eating all those non-vegetarian stuffs, right in front of you?

Wow! Almost 30 years without eating meat? How do you survive without getting enough protein in you diet?

Don't you get enough nutrition by only eating vegetables and plants?

You are missing so much of good food offered by the God, my friend!

Plants too are living species, then why did you say it's OK to eat plant but not meat?

These are typical questions I was frequently asked. I could visualize these questions being formed in the minds of my curious friends and strangers  I meet whenever diet topic takes center stage.

To my fellow vegetarian friends, whether you are vegan or lacto-ovo, don't worry. We're normal people who just eat slightly different from other people.

There could be three main reasons why be a vegetarian: spiritual reason, health reason and or combination of both reasons. My choice is largely spiritual reason and partly due to health motivation.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It was quite common in those days, during my younger years, the boys were taught to slaughter fowl/rooster for meals. I despise this one task and will avoid at any cost to kill a living creature. I had seen on a number of occasions how this was done by mum and dad. Seeing the oozing blood would send shivers into  my spine. I would sprint out of the kitchen, screaming all the way till they come and comfort me.

On  one fateful day, D-Day. Mum forced me to "do it". Sharp knife was given to me and she showed the right position to hold that knife, right across the bare skin of rooster's neck where patch of feathers had been removed. My heart pounded hard. I grimaced, but mum doesn't seem perturbed at all.

Her command was clear,"Just use your hand and apply pressure while cutting. Don't feel, jut do it at one go."

I felt cornered and helpless. My palm sweats profusely. Fingers trembles as I looked at the pair of eyes of the rooster. I thought if the rooster had a voice and able to talk, it would be screaming in full of fear to die in a horrible way.

"Have mercy on me, you animals." I felt the poor guy's feeling! I thought I should run as fast as I could, escaping this ordeal, but mum had another plan. She stood right behind me this time around, leaving me no room to bolt away!

She showed me to the way to hold the roosters legs with feet and placing a bowl (glass or silver) to collect fresh blood once the "slaughter process begins.

I use to wonder how awful it must be to be a "killer" of an innocent creature whenever mum or dad do it. I knew only the "wonderful chicken curry" taste mum cooked for us, but then I was not involved in the butchery act. No qualms when it was not done by me.

Oh my gosh, it's me now! When I pressed the knife and pulled it forward, I could feel the shearing of the outer skin of the rooster and  knife's blade entering the flesh. Its like cutting my finger with a razor blade. I felt it! The pain travelled to my body, and I sensed the warm blood dripping slowly into the bowl beneath.

Mum encouraged me to go faster with movement of the knife till the end of the other side of the neck. That's it, I could not take it anymore. I threw the knife away, leaving the rooster with open slithered neck on the ground gasping for air, moving violently. Blood was all over the ground and on my hands as well. I ran as fast as I could, screaming to my mum not to asked me to do it again.

My first and last experience, and from that day onwards, mum and dad never asked me this action ever again. I realized at that tender age that the animals have feeling of pain too.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It took me many months to recover from that ordeal. though I do consume meat for few more years. The craving to eat meat had diminished slowly and by that age of 17, I started to go meatless and become a  vegetarian the following year.

It's not worth to kill and consume animals  meats to fatten our own flesh. Every living thing in this world has its right to live an die a natural cause. To cause and inflict pain is not dharmic way of living, I learned from the books of Sanathana Dharma. In Hinduism, Ahimsa, the Sanskrit word meaning non- violent is the highest virtue. Thou shall not kill except in a certain condition, like self-protection, harming creatures that come our way and etc.

Killing with intention is a major transgression in all the Dharmic based religions of the world. Spiritual maturity comes when we learn to be human enough to include all the living creatures a part of God's manifestation. We have to protect their rights to live as we do.

We may not be involved in the killing process when consuming meat but when there are supply and demand cycle, we become part of that chain process to trigger more killings in the name of taste desire fulfillment. We participate in this endless horrific act of killing.

Knowing that it was not easy to let go meat eating, I am not against meat eaters or promote vegetarian way of life because this involve heart and sensitivity of individual who makes the choice.

Its a must for those who are on the spiritual path but it was not forced to be one.

I am proud to be a vegetarian and have no regrets about it at all. I made a wise choice to respect the rights of all living species to live.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now, fast-forward the continuation of the above story,  few years back from now, about 10 years ago. I had a severe throat infection. The chronic cough caused such a strain to my vocal cord as well as blocking of the breathing passageway, bronchial tube. I had a sudden stoppage of breathing when the airway cavity to lung spasmed. I felt a painful strangulation pressure. I could hardly breath and my only thought at that moment was I am going to die!

Quickly recalled, first aid procedure for this type of cases, I coughed hard enough to release the pressure, and within a minute, breathing was back to normal. Air rushed into my lungs and brain rejuvenated with oxygen. Death was moment away but not meant to be.

I recalled the day I slithered the rooster's neck and felt how it endured the pain before it died. I saw the fear and anguish recoiling into its flesh and spirit of the dead animal. I felt the same effect and trauma when death was mere seconds away. Law of cause and effect returns to teach me a lesson I will not forget for millions of births to come!

Let me share  verses from Tirukkural ( Weavers Wisdom, published by Satguru Sivaya Subramuniyaswami) which was written  by great saint, Thiruvalluvar thousands of years ago, Mahabharata and quotes from Saints and Sages relating to vegetarianism.

Abstaining From Eating Meat
(Weavers Wisdom)
"How can He practice true compassion who eats the flesh of  an animal to fatten his own flesh?   Kural 251

"Riches cannot be found in the hands of the thriftless, nor can compassion be found in the heart of those who eat meat."    Kural 251

"He who feast on creature's flesh is like he who wields a weapon. Goodness is never one with the minds of these two"  Kural 253

"If you ask,"What is kindness and what is unkindness?" It is not-killing and killing. Thus eating flesh is never virtuous"  Kural 254

"Life is perpetuated by not eating meat. The jaws of Hell close to those who do"  Kural 255

"If the world did not purchase and consume meat, no one will slaughter and offer meat for sale" Kural 256

"When a man realizes  that  meat is the  butchered flesh of another creature, he will abstain from eating it."  Kural 257

"Insightful souls who have abandoned the passion to hurt others will not feed on the flesh that life has abandoned." Kural 258

"Greater than a thousand ghees offerings consumed in the sacrificial fire is to not sacrifice and consume any living creature."  Kural 259

"All life will press palms together in prayerful adoration of those who refuse to slaughter or savor meat." Kural 260
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The “Mahabharata” states:

"The purchaser of flesh performs himsa by his wealth; he who eats flesh does so by enjoying its taste the killer does himsa by actually tying and killing the animal. Thus, there are three forms of killing. He who brings flesh or sends for it, he who cuts off the limbs of an animal, and he who purchases, sells, or cooks flesh and eats it-all of these are to be considered meat-eaters." ~ Mahabharata(115:40)

Swami Dayananda in his " The values of the values", connect himsa (opposite of ahimsa) to "treat others as you would like to be treated."

Ahimsa and vegetarianism are linked: we should not think of "somebody" being our dinner if we don't want to be somebody's else dinner

Satguru Sivaya Subraminiyaswami," Man's appetite for meat inflicts devastating harm on the earth itself, stripping its precious forests to make way for pastures"

The Person You Love Most Will Hurt You The Most

It's inevitable that the person you love most will hurt you the most. The sensitiveness of being open to the person that you get involved and the emotional attachment, so when they say something that is negative or perceived being negative, it will definitely going to hurt a lot more than say the normal people out there whom you may have no much string attached.

This is because you give your heart and this makes you vulnerable. Despite the high intellectual ability to think rationally and the superior faculty of differentiating events with logical order, we are still unsure the depth of each others core sensitive trigger button. The dark side of us will take over to ruin the joy and happiness which are always readily available within us, all the time.

Out of sudden, happiness becomes sadness, joy into sorrow, love becomes hate and so on; the antagonistic feature bulldozes all the goodness.

Remain steadfast when this happens. Never allow the sensitive external mind to control you. When you're convinced, and somewhere in your heart corner says that you'd been trustworthy, loving, loyal, kept your promises pledged intact, the law of just cause will always precede, despite whatever words of negation being heard from the other side.

The gigantic "life video records" cannot be erased from both sides memory stores. Words can be moved through  lips movement acted upon the external conceited mind, but the actual happenings have been done much earlier. What done cannot be undone.

Faith in God is the key attitude to withstand the inner mind turmoil when hurt. Remain true-to-self and don't fall into traps by having negative retaliation, be it in the mental or physical sphere. Time can heal. Give space and time to them.

Even to think or hurting those whom who have hurt us, should be strictly avoided at all cost.

Learn from experience to respect at one another. Gurudeva, Satguru Sivaya Subramuniya Swami have a wonderful remedy for hurt feelings. Protect emotion with color meditations and sending good thoughts and lights to those who had hurt us.

Pray more for them. Hope this will heal, slowly but surely.

Yes, I do agree it can be really frustrating and energy zapping on the person that being hurt.

Deep inside both souls, the one who receives and the one who inflict hurtful actions, love always shines. See this from the inner perspective and all will be well, with grace of God(s).

Hate Not, Love Yes. because when You love God, You will not hate others.

Cutting the hand that lift your burden

I was having a discussion with a friend over many issues affecting people who are unable to come to term with problems they encountered daily on both physical and psychological dimension. We agree on both aspect the impact they can inflict on the individual minds, creating confusion, depression and inability to think coherently.

When unable to handle a situation, they become very sensitive and had elevated heightened self-awareness. Their consciousness becomes overtly externalized, but their inner mind become congested with spurious vibration from self-talk oscillating within their subconscious brain.

The mind sees things, registers whatever happens outwardly and the subconscious brain registers these experiences internally. These are then regurgitated on a later time. The suppressed thought process then are replayed on the physical plane in tandem with type of thoughts that were inputted.

Many people are unable to control their emotion when problems are taken into them personally causing severe havoc on their  nerves system. They keep playing "bad experiences" in their internal recorder, over and over again until it impresses further deep within, agreeing to these happenings to gain fold strongly, the body reacts accordingly(fight or flight theory).

It can befall on anyone on us, irrespective of age, gender, status in society, rich or poor and as well the so-called ": highly educated." individuals in our society.

Somehow, they may find few good souls who happened to see these conditions and tries to offers genuine support and help. The success rate depends on the acceptability and emotion maturity of the person, the ability to look on 3rd dimension level. Even though, all answers are reachable within this individual, no doubt about it; however, when it comes to practical situations majority of us will falter.

It's not easy to pull-up emotionally disturbed mind to wholesome area of mental existence. This is because false concept of right-wrong, good-bad became too murky for the "logic mind" see things in proper perspective. The reaction can be devastating to both the helper and the person being helped.

This why it was important to recognize our own shortcomings in this aspect and prepare ways to control emotion. Be mindful and express gratitude when helping hand are offered. Do not cut away them just like that because the weightage of loss is more severe.

This will akin to "cutting the hand that lifts your burden." This 3rd dimension souls able to see from a higher view, right perspective and offer workable solution immediately. Observe and listen carefully for what they have got to say. Focus on the issue, not the person.  Chances are you may miss life may not be ruled out if these were to happen.

Engal Gurunatha

Love, Serve & Give

When we invariably pick-up any newspaper, portal news, and other sources of information dissemination medium, there are plenty of stories about war casualties, poverty, famine and horrifying human suffering in multitude proportion which could move our tears.

We could do nothing much for them except offering silent prayers, hoping all will be well. Then our focus would come back to the mundane life activities as though nothing had happened. This is because we're not directly implicated in that situation. The absence of physical impact does not turn our mind to react.

We are sympathetic towards these fellow humans. Even to the most hardened hearted individuals who may not show their sympathy feelings outwardly, at a deep corner of their heart, they may feel it. A basic natural psychological behaviour of all being.

The modern day living is fast-paced, complicated, hurry-burry, hustle and bustle, rushing to gain material possessions by all means. We can't afford to slow down for a second, otherwise we would be left behind, looked down, resulting mounting pressure on us to follow the front crowd. The loving nature in us took a back seat, not because it is not there, but due to the veils of more pressing matters on hand had camouflaged it.

Over the years tension, depression, fear, worry, sadness shall built-up to a point of we couldn't take it anymore. Sickness sets in as well. We become withered. So, natural law of elimination shall dictate our survival, ensures only the fittest to survive by "removing" away the ailing species for "recycling."

Love's light source appears dimmer. Why did I say it appeared dimmer? This is because Love's light does not diminish its power intensity. It appeared dimmer relative to the external mind condition of the person experiencing all those self-created issues.

The light of love is being clogged, blocked and covered by psychological and physiological conditions.

Once reached at a point of when we say, "It's enough.", slowly the process of self-reflection begins.

Stop chasing the "maya", illusion of life because it never ends when "searching" is our goal  to fulfill material desires.

The remedy is to unconditionally love ourselves first without presence of E-go or superior self-worth. Love all, encompass the dimensions of love throughout, anywhere and everywhere and to whomever we associate with. LOVE ALL, make a motto. Simplify life by releasing all fears, worries, negative past experiences and BE IN JOY now, this very moment.

Fulfill needs, NOT desire! Satguru Sivaya Subramuniyaswami, encourages us to live in the now. Have a simple life, wanting not more and not less. All the needs could be fulfilled with grace of God.

GIVE away all those negative thoughts and feelings which had been accumulated for decades, a huge trash-bin need to be emptied. GIVE away your LOVE feelings and thoughts to those near and dear. These generate positive emotional balance.

Hence, you will build up a heart to SERVE when love light fills-up your entire body system. Suddenly, when you hear the news of people sufferings, your heart will be moved to extend a helping hand, offering whatever you have, be it in a big or small way, with joy.

GIVE without expecting returns of any rewards because the LAW OF GIVING is to receive tenfold or more once the energy is released. A mere giving away 10 cents, would yield a dollar worth of dividend. The secret is not expecting anything in return. Just give and the law will take care by itself.

Gurudeva says, "Giveaway your time, money, physical strength or whatever means we have to some good causes, it releases the psychic burden and thus promotes self-healing process."

The art of communication begins with listening first!

During my working experience in a few manufacturing organization over the years, I have gained one valuable lesson which made me realized why communication is so important in our daily lives. Effective communication does wonders in getting work done efficiently.

Being an assembly supervisor at a young age, I have to manage more than 90 manufacturing assemblers, technical personnel and support staffs in AT&;T Ptd. Ltd, Singapore (1987- 1994). This was my second job after graduating from WIT.

I was promoted to handle night shift operation, the first Malaysian to manage 3 assembly operation lines. 90% of my downline workers are females. The came from Malaysia, China, Thailand and South Korea.

Handful of Singaporean was in my team because their preference is to work in the day shift.

Each associate under my care had a different personality, character likes and dislikes and they came from varied cultural backgrounds; multinational and multicultural under one roof!

Can you just image the intensity of mental turmoil I went through, counselling each and everyone's personal issues in order to get them to meet production target with superior quality standards?

Here, I learned the art of communication, getting them to produce outstanding results almost all the time.

Good communication skill is an added value management art process. Many take communication skill for granted. How did I  manage these associates?

Basic communication skill learned from the pages of Self- Realization, the River of Life booklet given to me by one of my college mates in 1989., but then, nothing was mentioned about communication written in this booklet, It simply provides basic answers in understanding soul nature, where it comes from, where it is heading for and what is the purpose of life?

The understanding comes from the fundamental question we all ask ourselves, Who Am I? Where do I come from?, and Where am I going?

Gurudeva mentioned that we are souls emanated from its original source, living to experience all the lives and then back to it source This source we named it as God. There is no difference between the Source(Paramathma and the light, Jivatma). All soul is essentially One but goes through different experience cycle.

I realized one important thing then, it means all of us are not different. My feelings are similar to theirs. Therefore, I must not be a leader but be part of them. This requires me to know each and every one of them personally and treat them as my extension. I showed empathy to their plights and always tried to provide solutions.

Sometimes just listen to their problems without any comment, ending with encouraging words at end of the session.

I may not able to solve all their problem, but a listening ear release their burden. Stress release while transferring their information to me.

Therefore, I knew then, listening is a key step to being a good communicator.

Failing to learn from failures

Seems like there are many things working up in my mind in these few hours. My itchy fingers doesn't want to slow down from penning my thought flows as these thoughts scrambles out from its mental core. Bare with me, if yet another posting is manifested within few hours.

Failing to learn from our failures. An action that produce results that are not acceptable to our pre-set target. Usually, in manufacturing or business term, this is considered " missed target" or failed to meet objective. Then the whole activity now will be put forward and broken down for analysis. In PDCA ( Plan, Do, Check, Action) cycle evaluation, it falls under the CHECK. The whole team or individual staff will do a failure analysis and provide a suitable solution as remedial action.

This process is a continual process until everyone is  happy.

However what about set goals and targets which we ourselves undertake in life journey process but did not able to reach them. Do we term them failure? It is more of an experience, maybe due to the fact that we did not understand the methodologies  to meet that goal.

Wrong focus, erroneous judgement, taking the situation for granted, thinking it will easy to complete. Immature decision making due to lack of experience. Stubborn attitude in pursuing the task without considering the intricacies in arriving the intended goal.

Rewind back to firm or organization scenario; work details, process mapping, work-breakdown Schedule  and Critical Path Analysis are missing (WBS) and CPA) and other project management tools were not properly used.

The impacts are wastages, material loss, cost inflation due to repeat actions, labour hour lost etc. The management will order a new team to take over. Then when a new team takes over, past failures are incorporated to be correct and prevent similar issues from cropping up, critical issues would be tackled at once. As a result, the overall objective and target may meet as planned. A lesson learned in a short period of time.

Now, coming back to us; take this scenario back into our own life, how well can we learn from our own failures? The answer maybe fast. It may take months, years or even decades to realize how to learn from our own failures and not to repeat in the near future!

This will be not as simple as running a business organization or firm at large. Learning to learn from failures process takes much more than that. It requires learning about our own behaviours, characters, attitudes, religious believes, environment that we had grown-up, the situation we are in and the mental state.

Emotion plays a very large part. The physiological as well the physiological elements had its hand on the success rate.

Usually on a personal level, we don't analyse too detail why we fail, hence chances that repeat failures to occur is high. Intuition and perception and assumption decides action, thus, the end result may not still be the best. Do first, recover later if failed will be deciding attitude. Consequences, impact to self, people around them, loved ones feel the brunt of failures and repeat failures and of course to own-self.

In spiritualism concept in Hinduism, there is no clear concept of pass and fail in the real sense. It is all about learning, learning and learning to do the right thing. If mistakes are done, opportunities are still available to correct that failure until its all done, usually benefits to  everyone. Right action dictates pass or fail. Purposeful failures results in heavier dharmic repercussion. Self-inflicted, not god punishment. You reap what you sow.

Consequences of failing to learn from failure.

Suppose you are ten years old, you'd done some mistake and failed, the impact is usually negligible because the mind is in its infancy state of understanding about good and bad concepts and its implication.

Now, if you're 18 years old youth and you made similar mistakes and failed, you'd be sure the impact and results are higher but not to be so critical.

Sometimes at later years, at the age of 35 years old age, the same mistake and failures done will be severe and critical to you. The price of repeating that failure is proportion to one'maturity. Law of karma is just, it doesn't punish but inflict pain created by the doer back to him/her.

Same failure at different age and time results in higher consequences of resultant impacts. We make that choice as we are free to do what we to do.

Test Friendships and Love with Time

"Test your friendship and love with time," Gurudeva.

When times are good, they encircle you and enjoy the fruit of life niceties together, you and them do good things together, have fun together, like to be part of them because of a common goal, but when you're down, they ignore you, they redirect their life to business goals, don't have time to think about other people problems, it's all about my life, my family, my children; their master is strong entrepreneurial business leaders who seldom don't guide the proper balancing acts, forgetting spiritual pursuits that binds. the adage to only mix with "successful business people," be like me, earn like me, dreams pursuance that often conflicts with basic spiritual law. We'll tend to fall into this trap due to ignorance. I am not an angel myself here!!

Many read or listen to THE SECRET with erroneous understanding without knowing the complication that comes with law of attraction without boundary.

They don't bother about your well-being, therefore, we should take it as soothing medicine of past karma returning effect. Keep moving on with our spiritual goals, aligning with our preceptor. Thanking everyone in that process. Remember the good deeds that they've done to you. No hate feelings, just love!

Doing business with close friends must be scrutinized with astrological compatibility before entering into a partnership, likewise, when seeking life partners, except in the case when love already been development, then compatibility is just a future reference and guidance, otherwise unsettlingly complication would arise, creating animosity, mistrust, broken relationship. Karma takes its effect for both to be reconciled.
If one fail to follow one's preceptors guides and do the given sadhana, complication will manifest on the physical plane where karma works in its natural way. I learned this the hard way.

Cracking a tough nut called E-go

What is an ego? In Sanskrit, it is called Anava.
  • e.go (n), e.gos (Pl) is defined "The self," especially as distinct from the world and other selves.
  • In psychoanalysis, the division of the psyche that is conscious, most immediately controls thought and behavior and is most in touch with external reality
  • an exaggerated sense of self-importance; conceit and appropriate in oneself, self-esteem.
Gurudeva, in his book, Merging with Siva, explains ego as the conscious mind; the area of the mind we are aware off. (Part 4: COGNIZANTABILITY, THE ABILITY TO CONQUEST THE MIND).

I strongly recommend my page readers to delve into this chapter and take your time to deeply understand. You will thank me a thousand times!!

Is the ego good or bad? Its can be both, depends on the situation. Small case 'e-go" is all right, but not the capital "E-go which contains all the “I," “me” and “mine”, as Gurudeva puts it well, the personal Ego identity

As long we can identify ourselves a conscious being, thinking, feeling and able to distinguish ourselves from other selves with due care, then ego is just fine.

The moment we entangle ourselves with the capital E-go, then this can be destructive because egotism, self-importance forms its ugly tentacles and bring forth conceit behaviors.

Most of the people on this earth are on this state of mind, the path of anava or Egoity, where self-indulgence, self-interest and selfishness are a popular practice.

Self-concern individuals who do not live a religious life, or if they do such as attending religious function, embracing religious believes, their only emotions are for themselves, their immediate family and friends but only if the later proves to be beneficial to them. Selfishness and avarice," Gurudeva

¶Emotional ups and downs are contingent to the āava mārga. Four steps forward, three steps backward, step to the side, six steps forward, two steps backward, step to the side, six steps backward, three steps forward, a step to the side—it is an amazing dance. Gurudeva

The Ego in us is so cunning that it can manipulate the law of dharma in fulfillment of self-interest or concern.

A person who essentially lives in the Ego world does not except positive critics, timely advice and dharmic doctrines. Their external mind teaches them to say they’re not wrong at times or not to admit mistakes done out of fear, anger and opportunism.

“Don’t disturb me," “I know what I am doing," “I can live by myself”, ”Don’t advice or lecture me," forgetting promises made when issues sprung forth, pot-pouting into reclusiveness are a subtle form of Ego reacting to external environment factors due karmic repercussion which was created by the own self.

Gurudeva further explains that the Ego path people are always in pursuing something but in never stopping pursuing fulfillment. The Ego person always the owner, get better, the consumer, not always the producer. Anger is the motivating power to fulfill a desire. He or she is a master of deceit, whether they are aware or otherwise. Suffering is no stranger to this kind of souls. The wise knows this situation well.

Anava path is full of I-ness, me-ness, mine-ness; I want, I give, I collect; I, me and mine are the key words. Vulnerable to fear and emotional upheavals.

It’s one tough nut to crack. Then how to tear down this nut?

Gurudeva says, “Surrender is the only way out."

Intense worship and bhakti (devotion), where selfless service is done without expecting any returns of rewards. Total surrender to God, Gods and living Guru along with seva (service) to religious institutions

Prapathi, the term for total surrender, performing sadhana, prayittchita (penance), temple worship, learning religious scriptures, understanding own religion intellectually and put into practice ( experiencing it). Doing charity, selfless service, karma yoga like cleaning the temple, etc.

Be in harmony with loved ones, open communication channel without condition set. Control anger, resolving conflicts amicably with all you have ill feelings. Forgive and forget.

Accept wrong doings by others to you. Respect and listen to advice given by elders who are wise. Careful with spoken words when in anger mode. Quickly revert to  composed style after correcting issues and tough people. Don't mix work and family matters as one.

Learn to debate in a harmonies way. difference of opinion is bound to exist, but not a reason to be angry. There are many couples fails on this aspect so frequently, can't hold to a debate without hurting each other. It's similar as debating session, once over, let go. They may have impressive educational background, but flatter when communicating.

Knowing so well about this, I myself often dictate the external mind to mellow by performing karma yoga when time permits, like cleaning the temple, even the toilets, helping kitchen staffs during festivals, support  trusted charitable organizations of my liking getting funds, etc.

It's not easy but not difficult either! Try and have some fun doing it with joy! You'll accrue great punya( good merit) in this process.

If you have a living Guru, seek his advice.

Indecisive and fickle love mindset.

This is an age old word. It can be a boon or bane faced by millions of couples around the globe. Love, a phrase, word, physical action or subtle transmission of inner magnetic force fields, is one of the most common universal spoken mantra daily!

Number of dictionaries defines love as variety of feelings, states, attitudes that range from interpersonal affection. E.g. “I love you mother” to pleasure like, “I love that meal."

It further explains that it can be a virtue representing human kindness, compassion and affection – the unselfish loyal and benevolent concern for good of another. Love also can be described as compassionate and warm action towards other humans, one’s self and animals.

Among others, they define love in various forms of acts as a major catalyst of interpersonal relationship due to psychological significance as a function that keeps continuation living species.

How much value one can measure this sacred word nowadays? One would sure scratch one’s head; therefore, I leave it to the readers to answer to this question! Take your shot, please!

The equal gender liberalism view of love expression without strong conviction of feelings does take a toll to millions of couples around the world. I leave out the other non-human species for now!

“I love you," words expressed today become “I hate you” tomorrow

Conditions are set, expectation that either one follow action that satisfies or pleases, otherwise it’s, “I hate you." These expressions do not necessarily by verbal method, but can be by implied manner.

Action says it in the absence of word expression; worst still the no action too can be a source of “I hate you or I don't like” exhibition of feelings.

Its how one party senses the subtle hidden projection through speeches, inhibitive body language and in extreme cases, displeasure direct rebuttal or raging anger tantrum.

Modern day love is more of physical in nature, devoid of true soul bonding. It is temperamental mercurial love, with largely missing “mutual respect” of each other’s weakness and strength.

Breaking of communication lines for an extended period of time, reclusive and withdrawn to inflict pain by perceived subtle punishments to their partner equally derails lasting relationship.

Hurry to fall in love today, and then fall apart the next day and move to the other person is a common phenomenon.

It happens to youths as well as to adults.

The operational women, a term I used for out of house working ladies, travelling businessman and extremely busy working man breaks apart family live system (arguable) are amongst vulnerable people.

Falling in love and shortly after, falling out of love!

It’s a funny situation, nevertheless mind-boggling to the older generation, even to me, who have not seen so much of free flow of love expression words in earlier days,  it’s sheer non-verbal actions that speaks louder that the word itself, showing of inner  love that only can be felt by both of them, telepathically creating bonds that binds for life-time; unlike the one akin as the bottle colas in this present day, where it sizzles first and then fizzles out, as quickly as soon the can is opened.

Void of “true love," this kind of mutual attractions never to last.

It inflicts lasting pains and sufferings, both mental and physical nature. It creates out-of-wed pregnancies that need abortion among the youngsters, extramarital affairs, short flings during trips, hook-ups with office mates, etc.

This is why I strongly believe for a lasting love relationship, for partners in particular, a clear formation of mind set on realistic future goals and strict spiritual understandings is prerequisite before committing, otherwise, it will be a waste of energy, time and creates bad karma to be be faced in the future.

Gurudeva, Satguru Sivaya Subramuniyaswami elucidated on this aspect in His Holiness Master Course lesson books with such clarity.

Gurudeva, in spiritual realms from Hindu practices, advices His devotees to be careful and discerning enough when selecting partners because has potential future implication.

No hurry, no worry and no sorry, Gurudeva is spot on when admonition  His worldwide congregations.

It’s better to marry a person from the same religion, denomination or those who are willing to be part of that tradition or sampradaya) to avoid unnecessary negative karmas.

No forcing is done here! Explain this to your future partner with a clear conscience. Be bold and don’t worry being rejected.

Life partner is meant for a lifetime, a godliness relationship that requires zero inharmonious conditions, albeit of occasional hiccups, settled within 24 hours and not more than 3 days of no communication.

The man of the house must insist on this in loving nature to his is future partner. She has to understand that from the very start both are an equal partner. He is the King and She is the Queen.

Love is a spiritual bond that binds two hearts, a lifelong commitment, no matter in what situation they’re once that a commitment is done.

Therefore, it is the ability to withstand any situation together thence on.

Once signed in their loving hearts, there is no turning back, unless under certain circumstances such as abusive acts, violence and physical torture that endangers life of either  partner.

Choose a partner who is matured, may not be perfect in all sense, spiritual, religious, joyful, who is willing to stay till your last days on earth, loyal, trustful, who doesn't see you in a bad light when you're down or bedridden, who accepts your shortcomings as long you're genuine takings steps to improve those deficiencies, be it in attitude or behaviours.

There will no room for fickleness, indecisiveness and erroneousness judgemental mindset. It does not love first and break-off later if not happy or yo-yo feelings due to day to day life pressure or changing circumstances.

Think thousands of times before uttering this word to your potential partner or future spouse, once confirmed, commit it till death do us apart!!

When promises are made it's casts in the inner-worlds, revoking them means demerit karmas to be paid in equal proportion by the doer(s).

Love can behave childishly but it's not child play. Love means responsibility. It concerns heart, not just blind external physical attraction for short term gain. It goes beyond this life-time as  bonded souls to attain the highest goal of life, self realization.

I have not touched on other aspects of lasting relationship from the viewpoint of Sanadhana Darma.

All can be read on www.gurudeva.org. Learn and practice one's religion with understanding.

Perhaps some other time folks!!

Ravichandran Ceyon speaks from his experience and says thanks to his spiritual masters, the Rishis of yore and modern the day jagadacharyas for their lasting love and light who showed the way for his self-transformation.
