Back To School (Pallikoodam)
I couldn't’t resist not tuning to other television broadcasting channels when VT (Astro Vanavil) was showing a wonderful Tamil movie, Pallikoodam, yesterday, 9.00pm. It didn't matter to me that I had seen this movie just couple of months earlier on a different station channel. This movie rekindled my old memories to resurface where my tears flows freely when many of the scenes re-enacts similar past childhood experiences.
The plot of the story revolves around 5 former classmates from a village school returned to their Alma matter and helped to rebuilt a dilapidated school that are about to be closed down. We were not that bad as how the school in this set was depicted, but looking back, the feeling of sitting on a chair and table facing a blackboard with teacher using her long ruler as pointer guide in her lessons, bud opened my old feelings back to front mental view, nevertheless.
The village scenes replicated to our kampongs, vividly revolves around young boys and girls rooming till the furthest boundary they could , as free as a bird. The carefree days and ways. I liked a particular scene when the parents chased after their kids who hid themselves at wherever places they could and drag them back to attend school. The boys jumped over dead tress logs, swim across rivers, hide in bushes, and camouflage by hugging body tight to high tree branches. They camped silently underneath beds; hide behind doors while parents mount a search mission the whole village.
I am not going to narrate the story in full here, otherwise no fun then. Check out on this month’s Astro guide, if there is any repeat of Pallikoodam or get it from your usual CD shops. Who knows you may have many scenes in this movie that would re-open treasure box of old memories again!
